Ignore

To ignore chat and whispers from a player, just right-click on
their name in the room player list at the lower left of the game.
Wait a second or two and their name will turn grey, and you will
no longer see chat or receive whispers from them. If you wish to
un-ignore them, right-click the name again.

Whisper

To send whispers, you must set who will receive your whispers.
You do this by left-clicking on a player in the room player list
located in the lower left corner of the game screen.

When you click a name, or if someone sends you a whisper, a tab with
that player's name will appear alongside the "Main Chat" tab above
the chat box. A separate tab will appear for each player you are
whispering with. The highlighted tab shows which conversation is
currently active in the chat box. You simply click on any of the tabs
to switch to a different conversation.

If you receive a whisper from a player other than your currently
selected conversation, the tab for that player will turn a purplish
color to indicate that you have a message waiting from them.

Other stuff

There is some very basic chat filtering that is on by default. But it
is extremely basic, and easily gotten around, so it is no substitute
for the ignore feature. It is only there to catch the most basic blatant
offensive words. It can be turned off, and back on, by typing /cf.

The /afk command will turn your Away From Keyboard status on and off.
When you have AFK status on, other players will see your name in the list as
red to indicate that you have set yourself as AFK.
