elle,
I just saw your entry in the upcoming magnetron contest. What the hell. I mean, seriously. Nevermind the fact that my mind -- as of yet -- is unable to make the leap from "random inanimate object" to "prehistoric sea creature," even the technique employed there escapes me.
I don't expect you to reveal all of your photoshop secrets, because I believe that the sheer complexity of them would burn out synapses in most of our feable minds. But could you at least clue me in to some portion of how you do the amazing things that you do?
The mask/copy/clone/flip/etc to get the basic shape, I understand, but how do you get the smooth, fluid look to the bends and perspective in those shapes once they are assembled? Is there a trick to it that I am somehow missing? Are you doing this all in a 2D editor, or is some of it rendered in 3D?
That is quite incredible work.
If you need me, I'll be crying in the fetal position in the corner. |

ouch! i was afraid that somebody would ask how to make an elle-creature.
not because it's any secret but because it's hard to explain (and writing isn't my greatest gift).
i tried writing up a tutorial while back...it ended up being thousand lines before i even got half way trough..
however, i will try again and will have something for you in day or few.
thanks for the compliment and stop crying now!
and while you wait, most of it's warp and shadowing, it's all done in photoshop cs3. |

in the end, there is nothing fancy about this whole thing, just imagine that you are playing with legos or tinkertoys. |

elle,
Thanks for taking the time to reply. That turned out to be far easier than I was expecting. Now all I need is the imagination to see something beyond the obvious joke or obscure cultural reference.
The closest I have come to creating something new was turning this into this, and that didn't take any special technique, it's pretty much just cut and paste re-assembly. I guess time will tell if I can make the transition from bringing Teh Funny to bringing Teh Art. |

Enlightening, elle, thank you. Looks like I may have to invest in a version of PS from this millennium so I can use warp. (My software is antique: PS 4.0 for Mac.)
gabbo, that bug you made is very convincing!
While I'm at it, thanks to Mr. Squirrel for setting up these forums. This is my first post. (Nice to be able to say that without the filter.) The PSAEF isn't ideal for some purposes, and I don't usually have time to scroll through it all. Maybe I'll communicate more with my fellow manglers here.
Cheers! |

| Thanks for the props on my bug. It didn't fare well in the voting, but I didn't really care, because it was the first time in one of these contests that I felt I was really "creating" something instead of just mashing images together to make a joke. |

That tutorial worked out very well for me elle. Thank you. I was actually able to create something with nothing but the 'O', and it turned out pretty good (by my standards ) |

This might be helpful for GIMP. Looks more like a liquify function to me, but what the heck.

BTW elle... My creation using the warp technique didn't do to well in the voting, but I still think its the best work I have ever done!
I just have to work on putting some background in the image. |

Yea....really happy about that one. I just wish I had CS2 or 3 at home so I could spend some more time on the images. Work really gets in the way of Photoshopping sometimes. |

| I'm just curious elle. You seem to know how to do just about anything as far as photoshop goes. have you ever seen anything that really really impressed you? Or, I suppose what I'm trying to ask is, is there anything that you have seen photoshopped that even you didn't know how it was done? |
